New Orleans

History

Where every shadow whispers tales of grandeur, and every room holds secrets of the past

The Xiques

Legacy

Built in 1847 by renowned architect Claude Treme, Xiques Mansion stands as one of New Orleans' most magnificent examples of Creole architecture. The estate was commissioned by Don Alejandro Xiques, a wealthy Spanish merchant who sought to create a legacy worthy of his family's prominence in the sugar trade.

The mansion's distinctive features include hand-forged wrought iron galleries, imported Carrara marble fireplaces, and intricate millwork crafted by local artisans. Each of the fourteen rooms tells a story of opulence and craftsmanship that defined the antebellum era.

Architectural Heritage

  • Raised Creole cottage design with double galleries

  • Original heart pine flooring throughout

  • Hand-painted frescoes in the grand ballroom

  • Secret passages connecting the main floors

Legends

& Lore

Within these walls, history and mystery intertwine, creating tales that have captivated visitors for generations

The Lady in White

Visitors often report glimpsing a woman in an elegant white gown gliding through the second-floor hallway. Local historians believe she is Esperanza Xiques, Don Alejandro's beloved daughter, still searching for her lost love who never returned from the Civil War.

The Hidden Fortune

Legend speaks of a vast treasure hidden somewhere within the mansion's walls. During the Union occupation, Don Alejandro allegedly concealed his family's wealth in a secret chamber. Despite numerous searches, the treasure remains undiscovered to this day.

The Midnight Piano

On nights when the moon is full, guests report hearing the haunting melody of a piano drifting from the grand ballroom. The piece is always the same—a melancholic waltz that Esperanza once played for her father's guests.
